Innovative College Combine @ Baker University

Innovative College Combine 2024 will be at Baker University on Sunday, December 8th from 9:00am-3:15pm.  Thank you to Baker University for hosting while the University of Kansas undergoes major construction. We are thrilled for our seventh year of bringing a combine to the Kansas City area!  Colleges and universities from the midwest will be in attendance to recruit and represent their programs.

Led by the skilled members of the 2024-2025 Pitt State Dance Team, participants will not only master different sidelines and combos but also gain valuable insights that can enhance their current team performances or elevate their individual skills. Geared towards both advanced high school and college dancers, this clinic opens its doors to middle school enthusiasts ready to take on the challenge and make their mark in the world of dance.   • Alternative audition plan for the Pitt State Dance Team due to some date conflicts. A fast-paced intensive where you'll go through the entire audition process in just one session.

  • At the end of the session, we'll record your materials for judging. Our judges will evaluate the video the following weekend at our in-person audition.

FAQ:

“What are your requirements?”

We do not have mandatory requirements however here is a list of suggested skills to prepare for tryouts:

·       Turns: triple pirouette, turns in second, leg hold turns.

·       A variety of leaps and jumps.

·       Inversions: Aerial, handsprings, Kip-ups

·       Flexibility and a high range of mobility 

·       Energized rallying and spiriting 

·       Engaging performance presence

“How many people will make the team?”

For the 2024-2025 season we are looking between 14 and 18 Student Athletes.

“Who determines the team?”

The team is determined by audition scoring. Those scores are determined by a judging panel consisting of the Pitt State Dance Team Alumni. The alumni chosen to judge may not have danced with anyone who is trying out for the team.

“Do you compete”

Yes, the Pitt State Dance Team competes at UDA College Nationals in Orlando Florida. Typically we compete in Game Day, Pom and/or Jazz however each year will determine what we choose to do.

“Do returners have to try out?”

Yes, everyone has to try out each season.

“Are there any height and weight requirements?”

We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements.

“What should I wear to auditions?”

You should wear:

• 2-piece attire: Top: Dance/Athletic Bra Top (No Tank Tops) Bottom: Spandex Shorts

• Dance shoes: jazz, pirouettes, sneakers/athletic shoes, etc.

“How should I wear my make-up?”

Make-up should complement your natural beauty.

“What about for the Technique Video?”

You make-up for your technique video should be natural and you hair must be in up. Slick back ponytail petered.

“How should I wear my hair for live auditions?”

In a current hairstyle that compliments your features. Make sure your hair does not hide your face.

“If I am not selected as a Pitt State Dance Team member will I receive my judges’ scores and comments?”

No. The judges’ sheets are not kept on file and comments about your audition will not available.

“May I try out if I have a tattoo?”

We do not have a tattoo policy.

“What if I cannot make it to the in-person audition date due to a scheduling conflict?”

This will be addressed by the head coach as a case-by-case situation.

“what if I cannot make it to Pittsburg at all for the in-person audition?”

Future Gorilla Dance Clinic

Pittsburg State University Dance Team is hosting the Future Gorilla Dance Clinic on Saturday, October 7th from 10 am-1pm at the Weede Athletic Building on the campus of PSU. Kids in grades K-5th are invited to come join the PSU Dance Team for a morning of fun and instruction. They then will join the team in participating in the famous Gorilla Walk and Gorilla Village pep rally before the big game! Parents will then pick their child at the end of the pep rally in Gorilla Village. A T-shirt will be provided to all participants.

Performance: Gorilla Village Approx. 12:45PM

Are you getting ready for auditions? If so, the Tryout Prep Clinic is the perfect fit for you! This clinic is intended for individuals interested in dancing in college, whether it be at Pitt State or another school. It is open to students from middle school to college age. Participants will receive instruction in sidelines, technique, and combinations, all aimed at helping them prepare for dance team tryouts. A Q&A session, led by current team members for middle school to high school sophomores and by captains and coaches for high school juniors to college-aged students, will take place during the final 10 minutes of the clinic. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the college dance team experience and is highly recommended for anyone aiming to audition for the 2023-2024 season.
